As you can deduce from the title, the category-defining query itself is searched close to 32,000 times a month in the US alone; given that the whole gamut of longer-tail queries based on it is estimated at ~128,000 monthly searches, that makes roughly 25% of the total. Interestingly, according to Ahrefs, the number is these searches is declining:

Since the population of the country grew slightly in the same time period, this means that Americans are gradually losing interest in love poetry, likely substituting it with other stimuli. Also, one could expect that it would not be only brothers but also sisters mentioned here, which is clearly not the case.

This month’s Feature: David Hernandez

David Hernandez, has published two books of poetry and numerous anthologies. He’s received grants and recognition from the Illinois Arts council and Chicago’s Office of Fine Arts. In 1987 he was commissioned to write a poem commemorating Chicago’s 150th birthday.

WHEN TO SUBMIT
You may submit anytime. Submissions, however, will be posted on a secret schedule known only to us.
(Perhaps monthly, or if the volume of posts is high enough, even more frequently.)

SUBMIT ONLY POETRY
Please submit one poem per round (Haiku, up to 5 in one submission).  Upper audio limit, 5 minutes.  Print limit, 150 lines or approx. 3 pages. Your picture, if you care to submit one, should be in GIF, JPG, or PNG format, max size 160×240 pixels.

DO NOT SUBMIT SONGS — THEY WILL NOT BE POSTED.
This is not a music site. However the use of sound effects, multiple voices, and other sonic performance techniques is welcomed and in fact, encouraged.

AUDIO SUBMISSIONS MUST BE IN MP3 FORMAT. (Audio submissions are not supported yet, but that will be remedied shortly.)

Welcome to PoetryPoetry’sfeature presentation. For this feature we present a reading with the legendary Chicago, IL. based performance poet, Cin (Cindy) Salach, recorded live from her February 2001 performance at Chicago’s “Center Portion.”

The “Center Portion” venue is co-hosted by Cin’s partner in poetry, Sheila Donohue. Together they form the poetry duo, Betty’s Mouth. We are pleased that Cin and Sheila could perform a few of their duets for us in this feature.

Our Featured Poet: Sean Thomas Dougherty

Sean Thomas Dougherty is a former high school dropout and factory worker. He grew up in a racially mixed family with a mother of Jewish/Okie descent and an African-American stepfather. A nationally reknowned performance poet he is the author of five books including the book of experimental prose, The Biography of Broken Things (2002 Mitkimitki Press) and Except by Falling, winner of the 2000 Pinyon Press Poetry Prize from Mesa State College and nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. Forthcoming titles include Toward a Choreography: New and Selected Poems and Performance Writings (2003 Mitki/mitki Press) as well as his edited collections Along the Lake: Contemporary Writing from Erie (2003 YeOldeFontshoppe Press) and the critical Maria Mazziotti Gillan (2003 Guernica Editions). He has appeared at numerous colleges and festivals including the Detroit Art Festival, the Connecticut Poetry Festival, the Lollapalooza Music Festival, LA’s Beyond Baroque Literary Center, Carnegie Mellon U, Gannon U, and was a keynote reader at the 2001 Race in the Humanities Conference. His work appears in numerous anthologies including Like Thunder (2002 U of Iowa), American Diaspora (2001 U of Iowa), American Poetry: Next Generation (2001 Carnegie Mellon), and Identity Lessons (1999 Viking Penguin). He teaches at Penn State Erie.

For this feature, PoetryPoetry.com gives you two readings performed by Mr. Dougherty. The first of these is taken from the audio portion of an episode (recorded in 1994) of The Poetry Motel, a television series hosted by Charlie Rossiter in the mid-nineties. The second is a more recent reading (2001) given by Mr. Dougherty at the Changing Spaces Gallery in Albany, NY. that was hosted by Dan Wilcox.
